How to schedule Misskey notes with the right visibility and media
Prepare a Misskey note, check instance compatibility, MFM, content warnings and image descriptions, then test scheduling and recovery.
Scheduling a Misskey note is only useful if the published note shows what you meant to share. A drawing with a content warning, a public announcement and a reply to another note each need different checks. Start with one account and one full test before you fill a queue.
Define the note you want to publish
Decide whether this is a new note, a reply or a renote. A tool that can publish new notes may not support the others. Pick one purpose and the simplest format that gets it across.
For an illustrator announcing a tutorial, a good set includes a short introduction, the tutorial link, one finished image and its description. Keep the original files outside the scheduler too. Then you can fix an upload without rebuilding the whole announcement.
Check the instance and connection
Write down the server address, the exact account and the publishing tool. Check that the tool supports that server and the format you need: a Misskey logo doesn’t mean every Misskey-based server or version works. Check your server’s current rules and limits instead of copying a number from another server.
Connect the way the tool’s help pages describe. Check the permissions it asks for and the account it shows. Keep tokens out of screenshots and shared drafts. After connecting, check the selected account before you upload media, especially if your personal and project accounts are on different servers.
Preview text, MFM and attachments
Make sure your first draft reads well as plain text. If you use MFM (Misskey’s text formatting), custom emoji or special effects, preview them on Misskey itself. Misskey’s MFM documentation explains the formatting, but you still need to check whether a third-party editor supports it.
For the tutorial example, describe what the image shows: “Three pencil layers show the outline, shading and final texture.” Check the crop, the order and whether labels are readable. Open the tutorial link on a phone. Replacing an image can remove its description, so check both again after editing.
Set warnings and visibility deliberately
Decide on each of these separately: who can see the note, whether it should stay on your server only (local-only), the content warning, and whether to mark media as sensitive. Misskey’s note guide lists the available options. A content warning doesn’t control who can read the note.
Don’t drop a restriction you need just because your scheduler doesn’t offer it. Use a different app instead. When you adapt a note for another network, check that copy on its own: the same words don’t mean the same visibility or warning. Keep restricted drafts out of public cross-posting queues.
Rehearse the schedule from save to result
Write down a named timezone, date and time, then open the saved note again. Find out which system holds the queue and whether your device has to stay on. Pick a test time when you can check the result. This is a test of your process, not advice on the best time to post.
After the scheduled time, open the note on your own server. Check the author, link, formatting, image description, warning and audience. Save the note’s link and the time you checked it. Only add more notes to the queue once the test keeps every setting your real announcement needs.
Recover and maintain a compatibility record
If you’re not sure the note was published, check your profile before you send it again. Look at connection errors and rejected attachments separately. After reconnecting, check that the scheduled note still uses the right account and the latest image description. If the announcement is out of date, update or cancel it.
Keep the server, the tool version (if shown), the tested format and the test date together. Test again after changes. The publication failure guide helps you work out what went wrong. Studio by Reunified schedules notes to Misskey as well as Bluesky, Mastodon and other networks. It isn’t available yet, but you can join the waitlist. Make sure it offers the visibility and warning settings you need. Use the cross-posting guide when the illustration also needs a Bluesky or Mastodon version.
